Composer, President of the Union of Composers of Armenia, Honored Art Worker of Armenia
Aram Satyan was born on May 23, 1947, in Yerevan. In 1961, he graduated from the Piano Department of the A. Spendiarian Music School in Yerevan and took his first professional steps in the Composition Department of the R. Melikyan Music College (under Prof. Ed. Baghdasaryan). In 1970, he graduated from the Composition Department of the Yerevan State Komitas Conservatory (under Prof. Alex Harutyunyan).
In 1965–1966, he taught piano and theoretical music subjects at the A. Satyan Music School in Goris. Since 1970, he has been a member of the USSR Union of Composers. From 1973 to 1980, he worked as a music editor at the State Committee of Television and Radio of Armenia and at the R. Melikyan Music College. Between 1973 and 1986, he taught composition at the Sayat-Nova Music School. From 1980 to 1986, he led the Music Theory Department at the A. Babajanyan Music College in Yerevan. Since 1986, he has been a lecturer in the Department of Composition at the Yerevan State Komitas Conservatory.
From 1990 to 1994, he was the Artistic Director of the Yerevan Chamber Orchestra. Between 1994 and 1997, he served as the Director of Music Programs and Ensembles and Artistic Director of the State Administration of Television and Radio of Armenia. In 1997, he received the academic title of Professor at the Yerevan State Komitas Conservatory.
Aram Satyan has authored operas, symphonic works, chamber music, vocal compositions, and music for theatrical performances and films. His works have been published.
In 1980, he was awarded the State Prize of the Komsomol of Armenia. In 2007, he received the Gold Medal of the Ministry of Culture of Armenia. In 2011, he was honored with the title of Honored Art Worker of Armenia. In 2013, he won the "Best of the Year" nomination for the musical "Morgan's in-law" and received the “Artavazd Awards”. Since 2013, he has served as the President of the Union of Composers of Armenia and was re-elected in 2017 and 2022.
In 2017, he was awarded the First-Class Medal for Services to the Homeland. In 2022, he received the Movses Khorenatsi Medal for significant contributions to culture.
As of 2024, he is a member of the Council of the Armenian National Music Academy.
