Vahagn Hayrapetyan

Jazz Musician, Pianist, Honored Artist of Armenia

 

Vahagn Hayrapetyan was born on August 30, 1968, in Yerevan. He has been involved in music since childhood. He graduated from the Piano Department of the Tchaikovsky Specialized Music School in Yerevan and later from the Composition Department of the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory.

 

He developed an interest in jazz music while in New York, studying with world jazz legends Barry Harris and Frank Hewitt. He has performed with many world-renown jazz musicians, including Igor Butman, Daniel Kramer, and Barry Harris. Since 1998, he has been the pianist for the “Armenian Navy Band”. In 2005, he founded the “Katuner” band.

 

In 2011, he released the "Singin’&Swingin" album. Vahagn has composed music for several films, including "Bonded Parallels", "If Only Everyone…", and "Shor and Shorshor". In New Orleans, he released three albums - "Love for Sale", "Trip to New Orleans", and "Bop It Up".

 

In 2008, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Armenia. In 2013, he received the "Best Composer" award at the Armenian Hayak National Film Awards for the film "If Only Everyone…", as well as the Grand Prix at the Vilnius Jazz Festival.

 

Since 2024, he has been a member of the Board of the Armenian National Music Academy.
