Vazgen Poghosyan

Producer, Founder of "Background Production," Co-founder and Board Member of the "Armenian National Music Academy"

 

Vazgen Poghosyan was born on March 19, 1984, in Yerevan. He received his education at the Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan and later at the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography, majoring in "Arts Management." He earned a Master’s degree in Management from Yerevan State University.

 

During his military service in the Armenian Armed Forces, Vazgen initiated the establishment of the first orchestra within his military unit. With over 20 years of experience as an executive and creative producer, Vazgen Poghosyan has been a driving creative force behind numerous large-scale public and state events, striving to implement high-quality projects that meet innovative and international standards.

 

In 2024, he co-founded and became a board member of the "Armenian National Music Academy" Foundation. Additionally, he is the founder and director of "Background Production," established in 2022, which has become a cornerstone in the design and organization of large-scale public, state, and international events. Notable events organized by "Background Production" include: The EBRD 2024 Annual Meeting and Business Forum and its opening ceremony, held in Yerevan from May 14 to 16, 2024, the European Weightlifting Championship and its opening ceremony, held in Yerevan from April 15 to 23, 2023, the opening ceremony ("EUROVILLAGE") and red carpet event for the 20th-anniversary Junior Eurovision Song Contest on December 5, 2022, in Republic Square, Yerevan.

 

Under his leadership, annual events such as the "Hero of Our Times" award ceremonies (2022–2023) and the International Jazz Day concert on April 30, 2023, featuring renowned artists like Erik Truffaz and Dhafer Youssef, were successfully held under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Armenia. 

 

Between December 2021 and February 2022, Vazgen served as an Assistant to the President of the Republic of Armenia, responsible for various cultural and public initiatives held under the President's patronage both domestically and abroad.

 

His portfolio also includes co-designing and organizing significant state and public events such as:

  • The 2019 "Classical Jackson" concert by the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra.
  • The "Armenian Summit of Minds" held in 2019, 2020, and 2021 under the President’s patronage.
  • Events within the 17th Francophonie Summit in Yerevan in 2018, including concerts in Republic Square by artists like Zaz, Melody Gardot, and Angélique Kidjo.
  • The rebranding events of Prometey Bank into "Evocabank" in 2017.

     

Earlier in his career, Vazgen held various roles at Armenian Public Television. In 2014, he was appointed Executive Producer and was the lead producer of the 22nd Independence Day celebration concert in Republic Square in 2013. He also served as an executive producer for numerous TV projects such as "Eurovision," "Junior Eurovision," and "Benefis."

 

From 2005 to 2009, he worked at "Sharm Holding," contributing to projects like "Yerevan-Moscow: Transit," "Yerevan-Kyiv: Transit," and the "70 Years of Armenian Jazz" anniversary events featuring concerts by Al Jarreau, Nino Katamadze, George Benson, Tigran Hamasyan, and others.

 

In 2010, Vazgen played a significant role in the large-scale premiere of Giuseppe Verdi’s "Aida" opera at the Spendiaryan Opera and Ballet Theatre.

 

As a creative producer, Vazgen has overseen TV series such as "Our Village”"Special Division""Ambulance 3D", and "MES 911" broadcast on Armenian Public Television, as well as the feature film "Revival".

 

Since 2024, he has been a co-founder and board member of the "Armenian National Music Academy."
